Zero Down Payment Car Loans in Qatar: Is It Possible in 2026?

1 min read · Published 21 October 2026

A common question among expats moving to Qatar is whether they can buy a car with zero down payment. The short answer is: It's very difficult, but there are nuances.

Qatar Central Bank (QCB) Regulations

To prevent excessive debt, QCB has strict rules on auto loans:

  • Expats: Generally require a minimum 20% down payment. The loan cannot exceed 48 months.
  • Qataris: Often enjoy more relaxed terms, sometimes requiring no down payment and loan terms up to 72 months.

Are There Exceptions?

While true "zero down payment" bank loans for expats are practically non-existent due to QCB rules, some workarounds exist:

  1. 1Personal Loans: You can take out a general personal loan (which doesn't require a down payment) and use the cash to buy the car. However, interest rates are usually higher than auto loans.
  2. 2Dealer Promotions: Very rarely, a dealership might run a promotion where they "cover" the down payment as a cash discount, but the loan itself still technically reflects a down payment.
  3. 3Lease-to-Own: Some rental companies offer long-term leases that convert to ownership at the end of the term, requiring little to no upfront payment, though monthly rates are higher.

Advice: It's best to save for the 20% down payment to secure a proper auto loan with lower interest rates.
